My research centers on the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI) and artificial intelligence (AI), specifically focusing on how we can design AI systems that are not only effective but also ethical, inclusive, and user-centered. My work spans several key areas, driven by a fundamental belief that AI should empower individuals and enhance human capabilities, rather than replace or marginalize them.

Core Research Themes

1. Explainable AI (XAI) for Human-AI Collaboration:

This line of inquiry investigates methods for making AI decision-making processes more transparent and understandable to human users. I believe that building trust and fostering effective collaboration between humans and AI necessitates interpretable models and clear communication of AI reasoning. My current projects in this area involve developing novel visualization techniques and interactive tools to help users understand AI's predictions and make informed decisions based on AI's insights. Specifically, I'm exploring the use of causal inference methods to provide users with a deeper understanding of the factors driving AI recommendations.

2. AI for Accessibility and Inclusivity:

AI has the potential to revolutionize accessibility for individuals with disabilities. However, many existing AI systems fail to account for the diverse needs and capabilities of users with varying levels of ability. My research in this area focuses on designing AI-powered assistive technologies that are truly inclusive and empowering. This includes exploring new interaction paradigms, adapting AI models to diverse user populations, and evaluating the efficacy and usability of these systems in real-world contexts. A current project involves developing an AI-powered tool to assist individuals with visual impairments in navigating unfamiliar environments.
